Our current large project is the rebuilding of
Sequoia Eagle Lodge located at the lakeside. The lodge will be
approximately 28x48 and capable of sleeping 32. It will also contain a
full walkout style basement that can be used for additional sleeping,
storage, and storm shelter for the lower camp. The major push to
undertake this project started in 2003 with fund drives continuing
today.
Due to Ohio camps being classified as commercial
entities, long delays relating to septic system location have been
experienced. The Ohio Building Code for camp buildings for habitation
requires internal toilet facilities. The septic system has been a major
stumbling block. However, ADR Engineering, Inc. has recently intervened
on our behalf, and we expect the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency
will issue the required permits in January of 2007. We anticipate
starting construction in early 2007.

We purchased more than $10,000 in building
materials prior to the recent run-up in costs. This includes water and
gas supply piping, roof trusses, standing seam metal roofing, electrical
power and telephone cable. The fortuitous timing of these purchases has
saved us many thousands of dollars. Presently, The Rock Foundation has
over $30,000 dollars in restricted funds designated for this project.
Simon Kenton Council is also holding an additional $30,000 in cash and
gifts-in-kind dedicated for this project.
